Good Deer Rifle for 100-150 Yards?

Postby tigwelder56 » Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:47 pm

What would be a good rifle for taking down a deer at around 100 to 150 yards?

I have a mini 14 and it works good at around 100 yards and I I have a Savage 7mm mag (which is way too powerful at that distance). *(Both have scopes and are very accurate).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

i wouldnt say that the 7mm is too powerful at all. and i too own a mini-14...they are fun plinkers but that is about it. they are notorious for being inaccurate. but if you are going to buy a new rifle i would recomend a savage in .308 with the accu-trigger. i shot a 1/2 in. group @ 100yds. today with mine.

I alread picked up a Remmington 700 30-06 (got practicly brand new for $250). Now I'm looking for a good scope to put on it. As the for Mini 14, which has an awesome scope, I've knock deer down 100 yard or less with no problems.

As for the 7mm mag, I've found it to be a bit much at 100 yards or less. It's got to be somewhere between 150-200 yards atleast. But it definate stops them in their tracks. I'll look into that Savage .308. I wish I had that AccuTrigger on my 7mm. Thanks docb!
