New Owner, How often should I clean my guns?

I have an H&K P30, some say to clean it after every use? Accurate, or should it be after so many rounds?

I clean all my firearms (field-stripped) after each use and have done so for the past 50 years.
Also, I clean every firearm every 6 months whether I fire it or not; even though they are kept in safes.

Any carry sidearms, used for Carry, Trunk Monkeys, Truck Guns, in Cabinets for easy access, or otherwise exposed to dust, humidity, etc., gets cleaned (wiped down + a lightly lubed patch down the barrel).
